Connecting with innovative corporations
Organised by Catapult, Corporate Innovation Day was a key event focused on exchanging insights, sharing challenges, and sparking new ideas for the future of corporate innovation together with like-minded professionals. As the main partner, Fortum contributed to the success of the event, aligning with the theme of innovation and entrepreneurship at Slush Week. The day emphasised collaboration among corporations, highlighting Fortum’s commitment to driving innovation through ecosystem partnerships. Fortum hosted four roundtable sessions on topics like driving innovation through ecosystem collaboration and building a culture of innovation.
Showcasing future of energy
The Fortum Slush Side Event “Future of Energy” was part of the larger Slush 2024 event held in Helsinki. Attendees had the opportunity to connect with industry leaders, investors, and other startups to foster collaboration and share insights. The event showcased transformative solutions advancing electrification, decarbonisation and flexible energy systems.
The highlight was the final pitching of the Fortum Spark Innovation Challenge, where visionary innovators, early-stage startups, and future founders pitched their ideas to address energy-related challenges. The winner, CuRen, develops cost-effective copper flow batteries for long-duration energy storage. Other four great finalists were Ambidex: powering grid stability through retail refrigeration - turning coolers into batteries for renewable energy, Solstice Energy Storage: revolutionising solar energy storage by combining a solar concentrator with sand storage, bridging the intermittency of renewable energy sources worldwide, WaterTread Generator: developing a nature-friendly method to harvest hydro power and Korall: transforming excess atmospheric CO2 into an attractive resource.
Another highlight of the Fortum Slush Side Event was the fireside chat involving industry leaders from Fortum, Valo Ventures and Greencode Ventures. The fireside chat focused on key enablers of clean transition, such as disruptive technologies, investment needs and role of various players such as utilities, startups and venture capital funds. This engaging discussion reflected the essential steps needed for a successful clean transition, bridging viewpoints of energy company and venture capital investors.
