ReMaint®
Fortum ReMaint® is to optimise operations and maintenance of nuclear power plantsServices for Operating Nuclear Power Plants
As a licensee and operator of Loviisa nuclear power plant and waste management facilities, we have more than 40 years of experience in maintenance and operations. Operators all over the world encounter different kinds of technical and licensing related challenges, which eventually have impact on power production. Before starting a costly project to streamline the maintenance and operation of a nuclear power plant, it is worth to discuss with us about our experiences related to the implementation of refurbishment projects.
Operating Nuclear Power Plants expertise
Operating Nuclear Power Plants
Support for Nuclear I&C Projects
Smoothly implemented nuclear I&C modernisations and I&C design for operating power plants.
Operating Nuclear Power Plants
Control Room Design Services
Fortum's control room design services ensure ergonomic, safe and efficient control room solutions for nuclear new build projects, I&C modernisations and control room upgrade projects.
Operating Nuclear Power Plants
Safety Design Services
During the plant lifetime modifications are made for various reasons. These may have significant safety impact and the safety issues need to be considered from early on. Fortum offers tools and support for this process. The same methods may also be used for new power plant projects.
Operating Nuclear Power Plants
Radiation Safety and Environment Process Support
Over our years of support for the Loviisa NPP, we've built significant expertise of diverse radiation related safety analysis cases ranging from detector efficiency analysis to plant scale dose rate analysis for emergency preparedness needs.
Operating Nuclear Power Plants
Training Services
Human capacity building and knowledge management is perhaps the most important topic for safe and reliable use of nuclear power. Fortum provides training services to build local knowhow for licensing and operating the nuclear power plant.
Operating Nuclear Power Plants
Human Factors Engineering
We offer Control Room and HMI design accompanied by holistic HFE services suitable as well for New Builds and Decommissioning as operational plants. Our core competence is in Human Factors Engineering, and we know how to make good HMIs and functional workplace designs, supported by V&V activities.

Optimisation of maintenance is of the essence to increase the performance of a nuclear power plant. Sometimes annual outages include also upgrades and modernisations to increase the nuclear safety and production of the plant. A refurbishment project usually takes a lot of time and, depending on the size of the project, includes various phases. It starts with extensive planning activities including licensing plan and communication with the local nuclear safety authority. Fortum’s experience in driving complex renewal projects consist of several areas and disciplines, such as equipment reliability (ER) management, I&C modernisation, lifetime extension etc. Fortum’s knowhow about nuclear technology and plant performance update serves best when applied at an early stage of the project.
Our upgrades and refurbishments capability areas:
- Equipment Reliability (ER) management
- I&C modernization
- Lifetime extensions
- Power uprates
- Safety engineering and safety analysis
- Licensing
