Fortum supports Save the Children’s work in four countries

19 September 2024, 10:00 EEST

As part of Fortum’s renewed Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme , we have entered a multiyear partnership with Save the Children Finland. This year, we are donating 125,000 Euros to Save the Children’s work in our four main operating countries Finland, Sweden, Norway and Poland. In addition, we continue to support Save the Children’s humanitarian work in crisis and conflict areas.

With this partnership, Fortum wants to contribute to Save the Children’s valuable work towards creating a safe and balanced start to life for children in these countries. In the Nordics, we are supporting programmes and projects that provide support to children and families facing challenges, by helping them to fund study materials, by distributing food vouchers, and by financially supporting their leisure activities in Finland, and by supporting initiatives ensuring that children in socioeconomically disadvantaged areas in both Sweden and Norway have access to meaningful leisure activities. In Poland, our support is directed at education possibilities so that Ukrainian refugee children can continue learning despite the continued war.

In the spring of 2024, Fortum renewed its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Programme to further improve our commitment to the common good. The Programme includes environmental and social themes, of which equality and education are particularly relevant to the work of Save the Children. We wish to partner with organizations like Save the Children with proven impact and efficacy, as well as wide geographical reach.

New partnership builds on earlier collaboration

“We share Save the Children’s values, and continuously see the positive impact of their work with and for children and families. This partnership is a natural continuation of our previous collaboration which started in 2017. Through it we are affirming our support to Save the Children’s efforts more predictably and enduringly,” says Nebahat Albayrak, Fortum’s Executive Vice President, Sustainability and Corporate Relations.

Over the years, Fortum and Save the Children have cooperated successfully on multiple initiatives globally. Fortum has supported Save the Children’s work especially in Finland, Poland, India and in humanitarian crises.

“We are thankful for the continued support that Fortum has provided to our programmes and to the humanitarian crises over the years. With this new partnership we can help children and their families who face socio-economic challenges not only in the toughest places in the world, but also in our own geographic area”, adds Sanna Kuusisto, Director of Communications and Fundraising at Save the Children Finland.
