FORTUM CORPORATION ONLINE NEWS 28.06.2024

Fortum and Korean waste management agency KORAD have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to cooperate in the field of radioactive waste management. The aim of the MoU is to further foster and formalize collaboration between the parties, providing a foundation for general information and experience sharing.

Over the past few years, Fortum has provided consultation support to KORAD on waste management and disposal-related topics through two different assignments. This collaboration enables KORAD to benefit from Fortum’s extensive four-decade-long experience and wide expertise in nuclear and radioactive waste management, including first-hand experience in operating final repositories for nuclear waste.

“The newly signed MoU facilitates and paves the way for more detailed technical support and consultation activities, which can now be executed on a commercial basis under separate case-specific agreements. For us at Fortum’s Nuclear Services, this MoU represents an opportunity to strengthen collaboration with KORAD, identify new service project opportunities, and expand our waste management and final disposal-related services,"  comments Antti Ketolainen, Director, Decommissioning and Waste, Nuclear Services at Fortum.
