Moving can take a lot of time and energy. That's why we want to make moving a bit easier by making it easy to transfer your electricity contract. On the other hand, if you want to sign a new electricity contract, it can be done in just a couple of minutes. Convenience is easy to appreciate in the midst of moving, isn’t it?

It is advisable to submit the move notification to the electricity company as early as two weeks, but at least a week, before the move. This will ensure that your new home has electricity on the moving day.

Submit a notification of move as a Fortum customer, and you will automatically see the benefit on your electricity bill.

Please remember to also submit a notification of move to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. This statutory notification must be made no earlier than one month before the moving date and no later than one week after the move. A temporary change of residence (lasting more than three months) must also be reported to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency within the same time period.

In addition, submit a move notification to the property manager of your old and new housing company. This should be done as soon as the moving date is known.

For the electricity company:

Submit your move notification to the electricity company online or by phone, preferably two weeks before the move. When you submit a notification of move to the electricity company well in advance, you can ensure that the electricity is turned on in your new home before you move.

To the Digital and Population Data Services Agency:

A notification of move to the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (DVV) is mandatory for all permanent moves or moves lasting more than three months. In the same online service , you can also submit a notification of move to Postal postal services (Posti.) If necessary, you can also submit a notification of move to the Digital and Population Services Agency by phone or by sending a paper form. The notification of move for the whole family can be done at the same time with one online or paper form or by calling.

Please note that the move notification to the Digital and Population Agency is voluntary for temporary moves lasting less than three months, because your municipality of residence and your official postal address will remain the same in the Population Register.

For Postal services (Posti):

The notification of move to Posti is handled at the same time as you submit the notification of move from the Digital and Population Agency's service.

For the property manager:

You must notify your housing company or property manager about your move by phone or email, for both your old and new apartments. This way, you will continue to receive communications that are essential to you and stay on top of your housing company's affairs.

1. Submit a move notification and change address well in advance

The move notification must be submitted to the electricity company and the Digital and Population Data Services Agency (Local Register Office). It is also a good idea to notify the property managers of your move.

2. Do you need a new electricity contract?

Your old electricity contract may not be the best possible for your new apartment, for example, if its size and/or heating method change. Please remember that fixed-term electricity contracts cannot typically be terminated in the middle of the contract period.

3. Get assistance for moving and cleaning

Moving is a logistically heavy operation. Old apartment needs to be cleaned and things have to be packed, carried and unpacked. If you need help with moving, it is good to ask for it well in advance. And if you are planning a particularly heavy move or a move to another city, you should consider putting a moving company out to tender.

4. Make a budget for the expenses of your new home

When you move into a new home, your monthly expenses are likely to change. Update your new rent or mortgage repayments and other changed expenses in the budget.

If you already have Fortum's fixed-term contract that suits you, you will also bring it to your new home. You can also choose a new type of contract when you move, even if you had a fixed-term contract in your previous home.

Fortum's electricity contracts can be terminated by calling our customer service. The termination of the customer relationship involves the processing of possible refunds to the customer and an invoice that has not yet been charged. Customer service ensures up-to-date contact information and the smoothest possible service for the customer before the end of the contract.

When you place an order on Fortum's website before midday, you can place a Express Relocation Service for the same day Mon-Fri. The service fee for express orders is 20 €. Unfortunately, express orders cannot be made during weekends.

If you have the possibility to wait, you will receive electricity delivery without a service fee for the next business day.

You can select the start date of the electricity delivery and express moving service on the contract form when placing your order. You can also call Fortum’s Moving Helpline and order a express relocation service move through it.

Your home's electricity contract can only have one contract holder. Please do not sign a new agreement if your household is not moving to a new address. If the current contract at Fortum has been terminated unjustifiably due to a move, we require it to be returned to the original product and the contract holder.

No, you don't have to. When you move as our customer or switch to Fortum, we will always take care of updating your electricity distribution contract on your behalf.

When you move, remember to sign an electricity contract well in advance so that you have electricity when you need it. Fortum will take care of the order for an electricity distribution contract with the local electricity network company on your behalf. The network company will send you a seperate confirmation and invoice you according to its own pricing. If your network company is Caruna, their costs will be billed on Fortum's electricity bill.
