How does Hintatakuu work?
These three simple steps help you understand.
Step 1: Choose if you want to lock your price.
You can lock in your electricity price for one-month periods based on our fixed-price offers. This way, you can trust that the price on your bill won’t increase even if spot market electricity prices go up.
Step 2: Lock the price for a fixed-term
You can lock in your electricity price one month at a time. You’ll receive a fixed-price offer in the Fortum app on the first Tuesday of each month, and it can be accepted from Tuesday to Thursday. Once the month ends, your contract automatically returns to the variable pricing model.
Step 3: You decide
You decide whether to take advantage of the fixed price or continue with the market-based pricing. The fixed price for the one-month period you accept will always start at the beginning of the next calendar month. You can make up to 12 price locks per year, one for each month, if you choose.
The price of an hourly spot price electricity contract follows the fluctuations of the Nordic electricity market. For example, during colder periods or when electricity demand increases, the hourly price of electricity can rise significantly.
That’s when Fortum’s Hintatakuu service gives you the option to lock your hourly-priced electricity contract at a fixed price for one month, based on our offer. This allows you to protect yourself from market price fluctuations during the locked period. With Hintatakuu, you gain greater predictability for your Fortum Tarkka contract.
When you have Fortum Hintatakuu, you’ll receive a price lock offer in the Fortum app on the first Tuesday of each month. You can choose to accept the offer within a three-day window, from Tuesday to Thursday. The price lock you accept will always start on the first day of the following month. After the fixed-price period ends, your contract will automatically return to hourly pricing.
Each price lock applies to the following calendar month, and you can make up to 12 price locks per year, one for each month, if you wish.
If you already have a Fortum Tarkka spot price electricity contract, you can enhance it with Hintatakuu. It’s easy, just contact our customer service at 0200 19000, and we’ll help you. You can also conveniently add Hintatakuu to your contract via the Fortum app.
You can subscribe to Hintatakuu at any time of the year. It is an ongoing additional service, just like the Tarkka electricity contract. Hintatakuu will also continue if you move, as long as you transfer your current contracts to your new address.

The fixed monthly fee for Hintatakuu is 5,97 €. This monthly fee is billed along with your electricity invoice, regardless of whether Fortum has sent you a price lock offer or whether you have accepted one. There is no additional charge for accepting a price lock offer.
When you accept a price lock offer, your electricity consumption during that period is billed based on your actual usage at the fixed price specified in the offer. In all other cases, your electricity usage is billed according to the terms of your electricity contract.
If the price lock offer is limited to an estimated consumption or a specific portion of your usage, only that amount will be billed at the fixed price, and the remainder will be billed according to your electricity contract.

The acceptance period for a price lock is three days. Electricity futures prices, which the price lock is based on, can fluctuate quickly. For this reason, price lock offers are only valid for a limited time.
In order to offer you a fixed electricity price during the lock-in period, we hedge an amount of electricity that corresponds to your estimated usage in advance, based on the current Nasdaq electricity futures market price level. The price of a Hintatakuu lock-in is therefore based on electricity futures prices. Spot electricity is priced differently than fixed-price electricity, which is why the prices are not directly comparable.
Spot prices are determined hourly on the Nord Pool electricity exchange.
Fixed prices, on the other hand, are based on the Nasdaq futures market.
The average realized spot price may turn out to be higher or lower than the locked-in price. A price lock offers predictability, since you know in advance what your electricity will cost.
