Electricity commodity trading is the backbone of the energy market, facilitating the exchange of electrical power between producers, intermediaries, and users.

Electricity commodity trading involves the buying and selling of electricity as a commodity in various markets. Unlike other commodities, electricity must be produced and consumed almost instantly, which makes its trading unique and complex.

Electricity is traded in different types of markets, including day-ahead and real-time markets. These markets are managed by TSOs (Transmission System Operators) that balance supply and demand in real-time. The main participants in electricity trading include utilities, energy providers, and professional traders. These entities trade electricity to ensure a stable supply and to manage costs.

By partnering with Fortum for electricity trading, you will gain easy and fast access to the energy market.

The price of electricity can be highly volatile due to factors like weather, fuel prices, and demand fluctuations. Power hedging is a way to manage energy price volatility and reduce risk for both energy providers as well as buyers.

For businesses reliant on electricity, such as energy-intensive industries and electricity retailers, efficient electricity hedging is vital. It ensures a reliable and cost-effective supply of electricity, enabling operations to run smoothly and competitively.
